The UK Living Kidney Donation Buddy Support Service is now recruiting volunteers to become Buddies ahead of its launch in December.
The service will offer a secure and safe place for people considering donating a kidney to chat with someone who has first-hand experience and understands the living donation journey.
Support is essential for kidney donors and those around them during the kidney donation process, both before and after donating. This new service offers a place to chat with someone who has firsthand experience and understands their journey.
The UK Living Kidney Donation Buddy Support Service has now opened for people interested in volunteering to becoming a Buddy – whether they have donated a kidney themselves, or they are a close friend or loved one of a donor. People thinking about donating can also register their interest in using the service here and will be updated once the service available in December.
How it works
The service will be provided through an online platform where buddies and users can set up a profile and manage appointments themselves.
Potential donors and their loved ones can then select a buddy for them based on age, location, ethnicity, gender and religious beliefs, depending on their own circumstances.
Once the appointment is confirmed, the session will take place using Zoom.
