Scottish GP climbs Kilimanjaro to fund research into kidney disease

Kevin took on the challenge with his friend, John, and reached an altitude of nearly 6,000 metres, trekking for five to seven hours each day, before a 14-hour final ascent to Uhuru Peak. The pair left behind their creature comforts to share a two-man tent, use a chemical toilet and cope without a shower for the eight-day climb.

Kevin says: “I’ve known John for thirty years, since university. Last year we got chatting about a trip we could do together, and he suggested climbing Kilimanjaro. We thought it’d be a good personal challenge. We’ve climbed Munros in Scotland, but I’d never done anything like this before. John raised money for the Railway Children charity as he works in the railway industry, and I thought I could raise money for Kidney Research UK.”
