A diabetes specialist nurse from the University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust is celebrating after picking up two renowned health accolades for his “dedication to education and support”.
James Ridgeway, an Education and Research Associate for EDEN, was named the Unsung Hero of the Year and Outstanding Educator in Diabetes at the 14th Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Awards, which were held on Thursday, October 31, at the Sanofi UK headquarters in Reading.
A nurse for 10 years and living with type 1 diabetes since 2012, James brings a unique blend of lived experience and health care knowledge to his work.
He designs and delivers training and mentoring interventions across all areas of diabetes which includes leading an innovative local peer support group.
James said: “Winning these awards is truly an honour and a testament to the incredible people I work with and the resilient communities we serve every day.
“In diabetes care, education and support are just as vital as medical treatment, and I’m inspired daily by the courage and dedication of my colleagues.”
He added: “It is a privilege to play a part in empowering people to live their best lives, and I am grateful to the QiC Diabetes Awards for recognising that journey.”
Laura Willcocks, EDEN’s Assistant Director of Integration, Education and Innovation, commented: “I am incredibly proud to congratulate James on his remarkable achievements at this year’s QiC Diabetes Awards. His unwavering dedication to education and support truly sets him apart.
